句動詞

いつものことですが、英会話の上達にはちょっとした工夫が必要です。

簡単なことを繰り返すことも必要ですが、

シンプルな英単語を大いに活用するのが基本でしょう。

受験勉強ではクイズのような難しい英単語ばかりでした。

そんな難しい英単語を覚えても日常生活で利用したこともありません。

使える英語は、日常会話でいつでも活用できる英語です。

言いたいことをシンプル英語で即座に言えるようにしたいものです。

聞けば分かる英語と自分から自然に使える英語の質量は大分違います。

使える英語、すぐ口から出てくる英語を身につけましょう。

そのために難しい英単語ではなくシンプル英語です。

基本的な英語の動詞、make  take   do   get 等々を駆使することです。

基本動詞と前置詞の組合せである句動詞をうまく使いましょう。

 

今回は、DOに関する句動詞です。

●　do down           人を騙す、悪口を言う、批判する

　　　　　　　　　You haven’t do yourself down.  自分を責めるな

●　do over              やり直す

　　　　　　　　　You must do it over.      もう一度やって

●　do up                  修理する、掃除する、手入れする

　　　　　　　　　You must do up your room.    部屋を片付けて

●　do out                 綺麗にする、掃除する、整理する

　　　　　　　　　We must do out the class room.  教室を整理する

●　do without        ～なしですます

　　　　　　　　　She can’t do without a car.    車なしではダメだ

●　do away with     捨てる、処分する、排除する

　　　　　　　　　We must do away with the old rules.    古い規則を捨てる

●　do in                     人をへとへとにさせる、破壊する

英会話は、中学英語だけでも十分です。ただ使い方が大切です。

基本動詞と前置詞の組合せの句動詞でも十分会話ができます。

受験英語のような難しい英単語を無理に使う必要もないのです。

criticize なんて言わなくてもdo downで十分シンプル英語が話せます。

シンプル英語を短文でまず言えるようにやってみましょう。

句動詞はシンプルでいろいろな表現の幅が出てきます。

英会話に慣れるまではこの句動詞のパワーを活かしていることです。

基礎動詞と前置詞の組合せの句動詞は沢山ありますが、

今回は基礎動詞PASSに関する句動詞を確認します。

 

• pass away                              死ぬ
• pass by                                    通り過ぎる
• pass down                              (物を)下へ渡す
• pass off                                    起きる、やり過ごす
• pass on                                    パスする、回覧する、転嫁する
• pass out                                   気絶する、配る
• pass over                                 経過する、見送る、見落とす、譲
• pass round                              寄付を集めて回る
• pass through                           通り抜ける、経験する
• pass to                                      移動する
• pass up                                     辞退する、断る
• pass along                                (伝言等を人に)伝える

 

pass のような基礎動詞は誰でも知っていますが、

passにいろいろな前置詞を付け足した句動詞も重要です。

シンプルに短文で英会話をするためにも

このような句動詞を活かしてドンドン会話するようにしましょう。

 

 

 

英語の品詞はいろいろあります。

動詞、形容詞、副詞、名詞、前置詞等々お馴染みです。

英会話で話をする時にそれぞれの品詞の組合せができます。

会話をする時にそれを意識する人はあまりいないと思いますが

自然の組合せで誰でも自然に話していることです。

改めてその組み合わせのタイプを見てみましょう。

「パターンを覚えれば」英会話も上達します。

１．副詞＋形容詞

• I am fully aware of the risk.
• His name was badly affected by the scandal.
• She was deeply impressed by the scene.
• It was highly appreciated by all.
• The meal was ridiculously funny and tasteless.

 

２．形容詞＋名詞

• I like bright color.
• We had a brief discussion this morning.
• He is facing a major issue right now.
• She has a younger brother.
• We had a big surprise at the party.

 

３．名詞＋名詞

• We are at the negotiation table.
• I don’t know his arrival time.
• He is a head instructor of the club.
• I lost my credit card yesterday.
• They are having a discount sale this week.

 

４．名詞＋動詞

• The company established this year was bankrupt.
• The project developed the local area drastically.
• The economy shrink this year.

 

５．動詞＋名詞

• They poses a problem to solve now.
• I have to do my homework.
• The invention created opportunities for us.
• Please tell your name at the desk.
• She got a shock when she witnessed it.

 

６．動詞＋前置詞

• She burst into tears.
• He apologized for his mistake.
• I thank him for the mail.
• She graduated from the university this year.
• He succeeded in getting a new job.

 

７．動詞＋副詞

• She touched me gently.
• He whispered softly.
• He run fast around the park.
• We worked hard to complete the task.
• She rejected sharply when he proposed her.

 

８．名詞＋前置詞

• What’s the reason for your rejection?
• You have the responsibility for the mission.
• His fear of flying made the trip difficult.

• My relationship with her is dying.

 

９．形容詞＋前置詞

• New York is famous for its skyscrapers.
• He is good at playing the guitar.

英会話上達のコツは、パターンを押さえることです。

英単語をひとつづつ覚えるよりも単語のつながり、関連性等を

良く見てそれぞれのパターンや関係性、カタマリ等に気をつけましょう。

単語もつながりで覚えると記憶に定着しやすくなります。

ビジネス英語では良く使われるフレーズや言い回しがあります。

長々と説明しなくても簡潔に意図を伝えることができるでしょう。

6. step down 辞職する　He stepped down due to his health.
7. take off うまく行く　His business has really taken off.
8. take up ふさぐ、取る　The materials take up the whole space.
9. back up  コピーを取る　The files were backed up safely.
10. carry out 履行する　The project work was carried out as scheduled.
11. come up with 思いつく　I  came up with this idea in the train.
12. keep up with 最新情報に通じて　I can hardly keep up with advances in the technology.
13. set up 始める　We plan to set up a big business.
14. go through 苦労する　Our project went through many difficulties.
15. find out 解明する、調べる　Can you find out the truth?
16. call off　キャンセルする　We have to call off the meeting.
17. deal with 取り組む　He is good at dealing with power harassment.
18. drop in 立ち寄る　Please drop in whenever you want.
19. hold on 待つ　I can’t hold on much longer.
20. lay off　解雇する Our president doesn’t want to lay off employees.
