英会話の上達は、難しく考えないことです。

自分で文章を考えるとなるとアレコレ迷うもの。

英会話では決まり文句が沢山あります。会話のパターンです。

既にある会話のパターンを沢山覚えてそのまま使いましょう。

会話の型枠、パターンを覚えて応用する方が英会話上達への近道です。

例えば道を尋ねる時の英会話のパターンをおさらいしてみましょう。

１．道を尋ねる

• Could you tell me how to get to ～　?
• How do I find ～ ?
• Pardon me, I’m lost, how do I get to ～ ?
• Which is the best way to  ～ ?
• Could you direct me to ～　?
• How do I get to ～ ?
• What’s the best way to ～　?
• Excuse me, do you know where the post office?
• Are you from around here?
• I’m looking for this address ～　.
• Can you show me on the map?

2.   道を教える

• The easiest way is to ～
• The quickest way is to  ～
• Turn back/Go back
• Turn left/right
• Go along ～
• Take the first road on the left.
• It’s on the left/right.
• It’s about 10 minutes from here.
• It’s on your right.
• Go straight ahead.
• You are going the wrong way.
• Take this road.

3. 　どのくらいか聞く

• Is it far from here?
• Is it a long way?
• How far is it to the post office?
• It’s just around the corner.
• It’s quite close.
• It takes a while.
• It’s about a ten-minutes walk.
• It’s about 1 km from here.

4.   道を知らないと答える

• I’m sorry, I don’t know.
• Sorry, I’m not from around here.
• I’m afraid I can’t help you.
• You could ask another person.

5.  連れて行ってあげる

• Follow me, I’ll show you the way.
• Do you want me to draw you a map?
• Come this way, please.

道を教えるシンプルな英会話もこんなパターンを覚えておけば大丈夫ですね。

早いものでもう三月です。来月になると新元号が発表になります。

平成30年が終わりますが、改めて光陰矢の如し、

月日の流れの速さを感じるこの頃です。

年を取るに従って一年の時の経過が早く感じます。

小学校の6年間は、とてもゆっくりで長い月日だったような。

それに比較して、どうでしょうか最近のつるべ落としの速さは。

まさにジャネーノ法則の通りです。

 

人に会えば早いものですねといつも言っている感じです。

親戚の子供に久し振りで会うと大きくなっていて

こっちも同じ年を取っているものだと

改めて年月の流れを感じさせます。

年を取ったと言いますが、年齢は単なる数字です。

そこで年齢に関する英語の格言をちょとと見てみましょう。

英語の勉強と年齢は単なる数字だと思いを新たに。。。

 

• Age is only a state of mind.  You are as young as you think.
• Age is something that doesn’t matter, unless you are a cheese.
• Age is a case of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.
• Anyone who stops learning is old, whther at twenty or eighty.  Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young
• Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been.
• You don’t stop learning when you get old, you get old when you stop learning.
• At 50, everyone has the face he deserves.
• Old is always fifteen years from now.
• Never too late to learn some embarrassingly basic, stupidly obvious things about oneself.
• For youth, sexual love is whim; for the aged, luxury.
• A diplomat is a man who always remembers a woman’s birthday but never remembers her age.
• Youth is the gift of nature, but age is a work of art.
• A birthday is just another day where you go to work and people give you love. Age is just a state of mind, and you are as old as you think you are. You have to count your blessings and be happy.
• Age and size are only numbers. It’s the attitude you bring to clothes that make the difference.
• Just remember, once you’re over the hill you begin to pcik up speed.
• You can’t help getting older, but you don’t have to get old.
• When marrying, ask yourself this question:Do you believe that you will be able to converse well with this person into your old age? Everything else in marriage is transitory.
• Old age is just a record of one’s whole life.

英会話をスムーズにできるようになりたいと誰でも思います。

言いたいことをスムーズに言えるためには決まりきった表現をそのまま活用することです。バカのひとつ覚えで決まり文句を話してみましょう。

言いたいことを初めから自分で作文していては非効率的で煩わしいものです。

英語の表現で同じ意味でもいろいろなバリエーションがあります。言い方の違いで英会話の流れや印象が多少変わってくることもあります。相手に与える印象も大事です。

例えば英語でI think …..と言うシンプルなものでもいろいろなバリエーションがあります。時と場合によって、あるいは気分によって、同じ意味ですが、表現の仕方をいろいろ変えて使ってみましょう。その例をいくつか確認してみましょう。

1.  In my opinion…..    私の意見では～
2.  I believe…….　　　思う、信じる
3.  I assume……　　　考える、想定する
4.  I would say…..          ～だと思う
5.  In my point of view….    私の考えでは
6.  I consider……            考える
7.  If you ask me…..       言わせてもらえば
8.  As far as I can tell…..    分かる限りでは
9.  To my mind…..             私の考えでは
10.  To  me……                      私にとって
11.  As far as I am concerned…..     私に関する限り
12.  As I see it……                私の考えでは
13.  It seems to me that…..       ～と思われる

同じ意味の表現でも何となく印象が違ってきて面白いものです。英語の上達はこのような表現のバリエーションを活用できるようになることでもあります。いろいろな言い方を覚えて実践してみましょう。

英語の諺を覚えておくと便利です。日本語と同じような意味のものもあり日本語英語両方で覚えておくと何かの会話の時に使えて話題になるでしょう。

英語の諺で有名なモノをいくつか確認しておきましょう。

1.  A picture is worth a thousand words.  百聞は一見に如かず
2.  All good things must come to an end. どんな良い事にも終わりがある
3.  Actions speak louder than words. 行動は言葉より雄弁　　不言実行
4.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  蓼食う虫も好き好き
5.  Better late than never. 遅くともしないよりはまし
6.  Don’t judge a book by its cover. 人は見た目でなく中身が大事
7.  Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket. 1つのことに全てを賭けるな
8.  Easy come, easy go.　悪銭身に付かず
9.  Good things come to those who wait. 待てば海路の日和あり
10.  If you play with fire, you’ll get burned. 危険な事に手を出すな
