誰にも願望があります。お願いごとをするのが日常でしょう。

別に神社やお寺、教会に行った時だけの話ではありません。

こうあって欲しいとか、こうありたいと誰でも願うこですが、

さて、英語でそのような願い事を言えるでしょうか？

英語で願掛け、願い事を言う表現を確認しておきましょう。

 

１．wish + 動詞の過去形

　　★　現在(未来)の状態がこうであれば良いと望む場合

• I wish I ate more cookies.  (もとｔ食べたいけど食べない）
• He wishes he had a new car.(新車が欲しいけど持てない)
• They wish it was January.(㋀なら良いけど、実際㋀ではない)
• I wish I had a holiday.(休みなら良いけど、実際は休みでない)

 

２．wish + 動詞の過去進行形

　　　★   現在(未来)の状態が進行形でこうなら良いと願う場合。

• I wish I was playing with my child.(遊んでいたいけどそうではない)
• I wish it were not raining now.(晴なら良いけど、実際雨が降っている)
• I wish you were visiting us tomorrow.(来て欲しいけど、実際は来ない)

 

３．wish + 動詞の過去完了形

　　★　過去の行動が逆なら良いと後悔する表現

• I wish I had not lost my camera.(カメラを失くさなければよかった。)
• I wish I hadn’t said it.(言わなきゃ良かった。)
• He wishes he had studied much harder when he was young.

         (若い頃もっと勉強しておけば良かった。)

 

４．wish + would

       ★　そうなって欲しい、それが起こって欲しいと願う。

• I wish she would come to the party.(彼女が来て欲しい。)
• I wish the fight would end.(終わって欲しい)

 

５．wish + to infinitive

        ★　wantと同じ意味で。

• I wish to talk with my manager to discuss more in detail.

 

６．wish + someone + something

          ★　～に～を祈る、お祝いする

• I wish him good luck.
• I wish you a Happy Birthday.
• My parents wish me the best of happiness.

 

wishは、会話の中でも良く使う単語です。

使い方のパターンをしっかりと押さえて活用してみましょう。

使っているうちに自分の表現になってきます。

まずはドンドン口に出して使ってみることです。

英語の副詞にはいろいろありますが、

副詞を節にして使う表現にも幅があります。

条件節や、場所、時間、理由、目的等々用途によって

いろいろな副詞節を導いてくれる既存のフレーズがあります。

パターンを覚えればすぐ使える表現なので覚えて活用しましょう。

 

１．条件の副詞

• Even if： You must come tomorrow, even if you are busy.
• If:  If you ask him, he would help you.
• Only if:  The market is open only if the weather if fine.
• Unless:  They will send it by air-mail unless you ask otherwise.
• In case:  You can buy it in case we have more in stock.

 

２．場所の副詞

• Anywhere:  I couldn’t find my purse anywhere.
• Where:  He is working at the company where they publish books.
• Everywhere:  We have been looking for him everywhere.
• Wherever:  They will deliver the meal wherever they could.

 

３．時の副詞

• After:  I will go to the post office after work today.
• As soon as:  I will call you as soon as I got the news.
• Before:  We expect that she would come before five.
• By the time:  By the time I was three, I could read a book.
• Once: She recognized him at once.
• Since:  I haven’t seen him since he left for New York.
• Till:  We waited for a long time till she comes.
• While:  He sent me an e-mail while he was on business trip.
• Whenever:  I can meet you whenever you come to see me.

 

４．理由の副詞

• As:  We asked him to explain it, as he negotiated the deal.
• Because: He didn’t come because he is sick.
• Since:  Since you are late, we didn’t wait.

 

5. 　目的の副詞

• So that:  We prepared them so that they can enjoy the party.
• In order that:  She ate vegetables in order that she could be healthy.

 

６．比較の副詞

• Than:  Betty is prettier than Cathy.
• As ….as :  I am not as old as you.

 

７．結果の副詞

• So ….that :  She is so cute that everybody likes her.
• Such ….that :  It is such a small house that I can clean quickly.

 

副詞は会話の中でとてもパワーがある言葉です。

いろいろ使える副詞を覚えておいて会話に味付けしてください。

動詞の意味を活かすも殺すも副詞での味付けがモノを言います。

英語の前置詞は40以上あるでしょうか。

シンプルであまり注目されない前置詞ですが、

会話では結構パワーのある言葉になります。

前置詞だけでも会話ができるのでそのパワーを再確認してください。

前置詞はいろいろありますが、

動きに関する前置詞についてチェックしてみましょう。

 

動きの前置詞　TO

中学英語で習った基礎的前置詞です。「～へ」と言うように

目的地、対象等を念頭に置いて使われます。

（例）対象がいろいろあります。

（場所）I am going to New York.      

           　 He went to the post office.

（イベント）She went to the party.

                        We  have never been to a camp.

 （人）　She came up to me.

                  I went to my boss for support.

　（位置）　The washroom is to your right.

                        Keep to the left.

 

動きの前置詞　TOWARDS

towardsは、ある方向へ向かってと言う動きを表します。

He run towards me to tell the news.

 He was sitting with his back towards me.

 

動きの前置詞　THROUGH

through は、「～を通って」「経由して」「貫通して」と言う動きです。

We drove through a long tunnel.

The Sumida river runs flows through Tokyo.

 

動きの前置詞　INTO

intoは、外から内側へ、何か囲まれた中へ移動する動きです。

She came into the room.

He swerved into the tree.

 

動きの前置詞　ACROSS

acrossは、片一方から他方への動きを表します。

We walked across the street.

She strode across the bridge.

I went to the restaurant across the road.  (通りの向こう側の）

 

動きの前置詞　OVER

overは、位置的に何かの上の方を動いたり、存在したりする様子です。

The airplane is flying over the house.

A beautiful cloth is spread over the table.

 

動きの前置詞　ALONG

alongは、何かに沿っている状態です。

They walked along the river.

He lives in a house along the street.

 

動きの前置詞　IN

inは、位置的にある空間の中にあると言う状態です。

The children are playing in the park.

He left his car in a parking lot.

Put them in the box.

 

動きの前置詞　ON

onは、何かの上に接触して存在する状態です。

接触しているので天井の上も壁の上もONになります。

I put my book on the table.

He has many paintings on the wall.

There is a big tree on the hill.

 

前置詞は一見シンプルで簡単なようですが

とてもパワフルな言葉です。

ひとつひとつの前置詞に使い方をしっかり確認しましょう。

 

 

 

英語でありがとうはThank youです。

大袈裟な話世界中の誰でもこれは知っているかも知れません。

日本では小さな子供でもサンキューと言う言葉は知っているでしょう。

シンプルな良く使う言葉ですが、他に言い方はあるのでしょうか？

同じサンキューでもいろいろ違った表現方法がありそうです。

同じありがとうでもいろいろ言い方があるものです。

その場の雰囲気でいろいろ違ったありがとうを使ってみてはどうでしょうか。

シンプルな会話でもちょっと英語らしく聞こえるかも知れません。
