I thinkと言えば「～と思う」と言う意味ですが、

英語では他にもいろいろな言い方があります。

私は～と考える。とか私は～と思う。とか言いたい時に

I thinkばかりでは単調です。

ちょっと言い方を変えて味付けを変えてみてはどうでしょうか？

英語の上達は、このようなバリエーションを覚えることも

とても有益でいろいろな言い方を覚えるのは効率的上達法です。

それではI think~の他の表現法を確認しましょう。

 

• In my opinion, the report is not correct.
• I believe that he will do his best to complete the project.
• I assume she can come to the party.
• In my point of view, the sales is getting to recover.
• I consider there is a risk in this venture.
• To me, it is not a big problem.
• As far as I can tell, this novel is based on his experience.
• From my point of view, your opinion is wrong.
• To my mind, he has already moved to another city.
• As far as I am concerned she is not a member of this association.
• I feel we should finish this work by this Sunday.
• It seems to me that your plan costs too much money.
• As I see it, we have to prepare for any risk.
• I honestly believe that he is ready to support us.

 

簡単な表現「私は～と思う。」にもいろいろな言い方があります。

いつもI thinkではなく、時々言い方を変えてバリエーションをつけましょう。

言い方を変えることで英語らしい会話ができるようになるかも知れません。

いろいろな表現を覚えることで英会話の幅も広がります。

これを繰り返すことで英語の上達も目に見えてくるようになります。

いろいろ表現を実際に使ってみてください。

 

 

英語の上達にはコツがあります。

頑張らないでカラオケの練習のような気持ちで楽しんでやりましょう。

 

英語にはイディオムと言うものがあります。

所謂決まり文句の決まりフレーズのように

誰もが使うので誰でも理解できるパターンです。

自分で頭を悩ますよりも既にある表現方法を

そのまま覚えて使えば効率的で簡単です。

人口に膾炙しているそのようなイディオムを

沢山覚えてドンドン実践で活用しましょう。

 

イディオムはいろいろありますが、

今回は「お金」に関するイディオムを覚えましょう。

 

1. 　foot the bill      勘定を払う（割り勘でなく自分が払うよと言う時に）
2. 　money talks     お金がモノをいう。何でもお金があれば。
3. 　break the bank   人を無一文にする
4. 　money to burn  腐るほどのお金
5. 　for peanuts   タダみたいな値段で
6. 　cut your losses   損しないうちに手を引く
7. 　bring home the bacon  稼いで家にお金を入れる
8. 　as sound as a dollar  まったく健全で
9. 　cash-and-carry  現金払い持ち帰り制
10. 　cash in on   ～から利益を得る
11. 　be made of money   金持ちで、裕福で
12. 　make a killing   ぼろ儲けをする
13. 　get a run for one’s money 大変な努力、骨折りがいのある

17. 　throw one’s money about    ムダ金を使う

英語のイディオムを使うと英語らしい表現ができます。

ちょっとイディオムを覚えて実際に会話で使ってみましょう。

英語の上達が知らず知らずのうちに進んで行くのが分かります。

誰でも知っている英単語DOWNの使い方を整理しましょう。

日本語でも大体英語の意味と同じ感じでダウンと使われるので

日本人にもお馴染みの英単語ではあります。

どのような意味や使い方があるのか

もう一度整理して意味を理解しておきます。

１．まず基本的な使い方は前置詞としてのdown

　　down the hill

        down the stairs

        前置詞としてのdownはお馴染みの使い方です。

 

２．名詞としてのdown

　　ダウンのコートと言う時のダウンは名詞です。down featherです。

　　その他に下りとか下降の意味の名詞もあります。

　　ups and downs 運、不運と言うこともあります。

 

３．形容詞としてのdown

        a down escalator

        a down payment  前払い

　　

４．動詞や句動詞として使うdown

        to down a drink 

　　これは動詞のdownで飲み干すと言う意味。

　　句動詞としても

　　to put down

        to track down

        to calm down

         このように動詞＋downの組合せがいろいろあります。

 

５．down +他の単語で使う場合（イディオム）

　　down to earth   堅実な、足が地についた

　　down and out どん底で

　　down right まったくの、率直な

　　downcast  意気消沈した

　　downfall  失墜、破綻

　　downpour  土砂降り

　　downturn （経済活動の）下降、減少

　　down under   オーストラリア

シンプルな単語downですが、使い方や意味を

受験勉強で英単語を覚える時には暗記暗記の力仕事でした。

無味乾燥な英単語の暗記は疲れるもので

試験が終わればすっかりその英単語も忘れることも。

暗記ばかりに頼っていては英単語を記憶に定着するのは難しいのです。

 

英語上達は、ひとつの英単語で覚えるのではなく

フレーズや熟語のカタマリとして覚える方が効率的です。

例えば今回説明するある前置詞と良く使われる単語があります。

この単語が出てきたらこの前置詞と組みになっているので

それはそのままリズム良くカタマリとして覚えましょう。

口で喋ってみて何度か繰り返せば口にも馴染んで来て頭に定着します。

カラオケで何度も好きな歌を歌っていれば

いずれ十八番になるのと同じです。五感を使って定着させましょう。

• ashamed of  恥じて　He is ashamed of his mistake.
• aware of       気がついて　She is aware of the risk.
• capable of  出来る　The PC is capable of calculating quickly.
• certain of 信じて　　He is certain of her recovery.
• envious of  ねたんで　She is envious of his success.
• independent of  関係がない　The failure of the project is independent of the accident.
• jealous of  うらやましい　I am jealous of your promotion.
• proud of 誇りに思う　He is proud of his son’s success.
• short of  足りない　　I am short of cash.
• typical of  典型的な　It is typical of Japan.

 

FORがつく組合せ

• eager for  熱望して　　He is eager for success.
• eligible for ふさわしい　She is eligible for this job.
• famous for  有名な　　What is Kyoto famous for?
• grateful for 感謝して　　We are grateful for his assistance.
• notorious for 悪名の　　The burglar is notorious for his audacity.
• prepared for  備えて   I am prepared for the test.
• responsible for 責任がある　He is responsible for the failure.
• suitable for 適して　　It is suitable for the new construction.

 

WITHがつく組合せ

• associated with  関連する　A snake is associated with horror.
• bored with 飽きる　I am bored with watching TV.
• blessed with  恵まれて　I am blessed with good friends.
• confronted with 直面して　We are confronted with a big issue.
• delighted with 喜んで　He is delighted with the news.
• disappointed with 失望して　I was disappointed with the result.
• fed up with うんざりして　I am fed up with her.
• familiar with 精通して　I am familiar with this work.
• pleased with 喜んで　I am pleased with the discovery.
• satisfied with 満足して　We are satisfied with the new room.

 

TOがつく組合せ

• attracted to  魅かれる　He was attracted to her.
• accustomed to 慣れて　We are accustomed to this manner.
• addicted to  病みつきで　He is addicted to smoking.
• married to 結婚して　Marry is married to a teacher.
• receptive to 受け入れて　He is receptive to new ideas.
• related to 関連して　It is related to the politics.
• similar to 似て　This is similar to the first model.
• superior to 優れて　That company is superior to our company.

 

英単語はひとつで覚えるよりも前置詞との組み合わせのような

カタマリとして覚える方が効率的に語彙数を増やすコツです。

フレーズや組合せに注意してカタマリで覚えるようにしましょう。
