海外旅行に出かけて道を尋ねると言う場面は必ず出てきます。

あるいは日本にいても外国人から道を聞かれることもあるでしょう。

日常会話では道を尋ねる、あるいは逆に尋ねられるシーンは多いです。

会話の場面は、多くの場合パターンがあります。

自分でどう言うのか悩まずにまずはパターン会話を覚えることです。

ひととおりパターン会話を覚えておけばその後に応用はいくらでもできます。

道を尋ねるシーンのパターン会話をいくつか確認しておきましょう。

 

１．道を尋ねる

• How do I find this station?   駅はどこですか？
• Could you tell me how to get to the post office? 郵便局はどこですか？
• Pardon, I’m lost, how do I get to the station?
• Which is the best way to the station? 駅への一番良い行き方は？
• Could you direct me to the station?  駅への道を教えてください。
• Where is the station?  駅はどこですか？
• Excuse me, could you tell me how to get to the station.
• Are you from around here? 　この近くの方ですか？
• I am looking for this address.  この住所を探しています
• Is this the right way for the station?  駅への道はこれで合ってますか？
• Can you show me the way on this map?  この地図で教えてください

 

２．道を教える

• The best way is to take this road.  一番良いのはこの通りを行く事です
• The quickest way is to take North Street. 早いのは北通りを行く事です
• Turn back   引き返して
• Turn right/Turn left    右へ曲がって/左へ曲がって
• Go along this street.   この道沿いに行きなさい
• Take the first road on the left.   左手にある最初の通りを行きなさい
• The station is on the right.   駅は右手にあります
• It is next to the post office.   それは郵便局の隣りです
• You are going the wrong way.   道が間違っていますよ
• Go straight and turn right at the crossroads.  真直ぐ行って交差点を右
• It will be straight ahead of you.  真直ぐ行くとあります
• Do you want me to draw a map?  地図を描きましょうか？
• Follow me, I will show you the way.  一緒に来てください

 

３．距離を尋ねる

• Is it far from here?   ここから遠いですか？
• Is it a long way?   遠いですか？
• It is not so far from here.   それ程遠くありません
• It is quite close.   とても近いです
• It is a long way on foot.   徒歩だと遠いです
• It is about a ten-minute walk.   徒歩で10分くらいです
• It is about 2 Km from here.   ここから２ｋｍくらいです

 

４．道が分からないとき

• Sorry, I don’t know the way.   分かりません
• I am sorry, I am not from around here.　　この近くの者ではないので
• I am sorry I can’t help you.   ちょっとお役に立てなくて
• You could ask at the Koban.  交番で聞いてください

 

日常会話では道を尋ねる、尋ねられる場面は必ず出てきます。

難しく考えないでパターン会話を覚えてそれをそのまま活用しましょう。

英会話の初歩はパターン会話を活用することです。

英語の慣れてきたらいくらでも後で自分で応用することができます。

慣れるまではパターン会話の活用を心掛けてみてください。

英会話は簡単なひとことがとても難しいものです。

会話では必要な時に必要なひとことを口にしなければいけません。

その必要なひとことが即座に口から出てくるでしょうか？

まごまごしていてはタイミングがずれてしまうでしょう。

簡単なひとことが必要なそのタイミングでサッと口から出てくるか問題です。

即座に口から自然に出てくるように日頃から努力しましょう。

 

今回は、悪い話を聞いて即座に反応する時のひとことです。

即座に口にする、これがなかなか難しいものです。

いくつかパターンを覚えておいて活用してください。

 

• It’s a bad news.
• I am really sorry to hear that.
• That’s awful.
• Sorry, that’s disappointing.
• That must have been awful.
• My goodness. What a shock!
• Please accept my deepest sympathy.
• Poor you. I do sympathize you.
• What a pity!
• That’s terrible.
• That’s indeed sad.  I can imagine how you feel.
• I can’t believe it.

 

簡単なひとことが即座に出てくるようになると

英会話の上達も先が見えてきます。

即座に口から出てくるためには

日頃の「仕込み」が大事です。

つまり繰り返し練習することです。

地道な練習がなければ即座の応答もできないでしょう。

コツコツ日頃の仕込みを頑張ってみましょう。

中華料理のレストランでメニューを見ると

大体調理方法が分かるような漢字の名前がついています。

英語のメニューでも調理方法に関する動詞がついている筈です。

動詞はその意味でとても重要です。

料理関係で会話する時、メニューを解読する時等に

参考になる英単語を確認してみましょう。

1. break  卵を割る　　I break 3 eggs into a bowl.
2. melt    溶かす　　　Heat melts ice.
3. spread  塗る　　　　She spread some jam on her toast.
4. roll out  生地を伸ばす　She rolls out the pastry on the table.
5. fry    炒める　　I fry 2 eggs for my breakfast.
6. peel 皮をむく　He peels a banana.
7. mix   混ぜる　　After you have beaten the eggs, mix in the flour.
8. whip  かき混ぜる　I can whip up an omelette.
9. saute  ソテーする　　I want to saute the onions for 4 minutes.
10. taste   味見する　　She tastes the soup I cooked.
11. cut    切る　　I cut the meat into small pieces.
12. chop  みじん切りにする　Please chop the onions into small pieces.
13. slice  薄切りにする　He sliced a loaf of bread on the table.
14. grate すりおろす　I must grate carrots for the dinner.
15. boil  茹でる　She boiled an egg for me.
16. steam  蒸す　You must steam the prawns for the guests.
17. pinch  つまむ　I pinch little salt into the soup.
18. pour  そそぐ　　He poured a cup of coffee for me.
19. add  加える　　Please add some salt when you cook.
20. barbecue   バーベキューする　We will barbecue in the park today.
21. roast  あぶり焼きする　He is going to roast the chicken.
22. bake  焼く　I bake my own bread at home.
23. stir  かき混ぜる　She used my spoon to stir her tea.
24. weigh  目方を計る　I weigh 2 kg of potatoes.
25. grill  焼く　The meat is well grilled.
