会議で英語を使うことがありますか？英語で議論できますか？

仕事で英語を使う場合、会議や議論の場面には必ず出くわすものです。

どのような会議や議論であれ、そんな場面で使う定型の言い方を覚えましょう。

難しく考えて自分で作文するよりもサンプルがあれば

それをそのまま活用する方が便利で効率的です。

会議や議論で使えるパターン表現を確認しましょう。

１．相手の意見を聞く場合

• What is your opinion about this problem?
• Could you tell me your view about this issue?
• What do you think about this problem?
• May I ask your opinion about this issue?

２．説明を求める場合

• Could you explain to me more in detail?
• Just tell me the reason why you think so?
• Are you saying that (we should negotiate with them)?
• What do you mean by that?
• I couldn’t understand what you said.  Please explain more.

３．自分の意見を述べる場合

• I think ～
• If you want my opinion, I believe ～
• Let me put it this way.     I feel that ～
• In my opinion, I think ～
• The point I am trying to make is ～

４．相手の意見に合意する場合

• I agree with you.
• I couldn’t agree with you more.
• I completely agree with you on this point.
• I think so, too.
• That’s just how I see it, too.
• That’s exactly what I mean.
• You are quite right.

５．賛成、でも、、、の場合

• Yes, perhaps so, but ～
• I agree up to a certain point, but  ～
• I see what you mean, but I think that’s not the whole story.
• You may b right there.
• Yes, but there’s also another aspect to consider.

６．相手に反対の場合

• I disagree with you.
• I am not so sure.
• I am sorry I can’t agree.
• I don’t think so.
• I can’t go all the way with yo on that point.
• I am not convinced on that point.

会議や議論、ネゴで使われる英語にはパターンがあります。

難しく考えないで定型のパターン会話をまず覚えましょう。

サンプル会話を覚えておけば後でいくらでも脚色ができるでしょう。

ゼロから自分で考えないで定型パターンをまず準備しておきましょう。

英語の試験問題で～のためにと言う慣用句が良くテストに出ました。

日本語ではシンプルな～のためにですが、

英作文にするといろいろな言い方があることに気が付きます。

そのいろいろな言い方について確認してみましょう。

 

１．～のために（利益の場合）

     ・   We agreed with with for the sake of good relationship.

          　良い関係のために合意した。

　　・I helped him in the interest of saving time.

               時間節約のために彼を援助した

　　・We made many chairs for the  benefit of all children.

              こどもたちのために沢山椅子を作った。

         ・I attended the meeting on behalf of my company.

               会社のために（代表して）会議に出席した。

　　  ２．～のために（理由、原因）

　　　・We cancelled the trip on account of a typhoon. 

                台風のために旅行をキャンセルした。

　　　・We were very late due to the heavy traffic.

                 渋滞のために遅れた。

　　　・Thanks to his help, I could finish the job.

　　　　　彼のお陰で仕事を終えた。

　　　・I stayed at home because of rain.

                   雨のために家に居た。   

３．～のために（目的）

　　　・I studied hard to pass the exam.

            ・I studied hard so as to pass the exam.

             ・I studied hard in order to pass the exam.      

　　　 ・I studied hard for the purpose of passing the exam.

              ・I studied hard with the view to passing the exam.

                  テストにパスするために一生懸命勉強した。

 

日本語でシンプルに～のためにと言っても

シチュエーションによって英語ではいろいろな言い方になります。

このようなちょっとした言い方の違いをすぐ言えるように

日頃からバリエーションの幅を広げるように努力しましょう。

　　　　 

 

英単語を覚えるのは大変ですが、英語の動詞にも困ります。

英語のセンテンスは、主語と動詞がなければ成立しません。

動詞は必ず使うもので英単語動詞を知らないと話もできません。

動詞もいろいろですが、別に難しい動詞を覚えることもありません。

句動詞を活用すればシンプルな表現ができるので便利です。

句動詞とは、基礎動詞と前置詞の組合せで作られる動詞形です。

基礎動詞ばかりなのでいろいろ前置詞との組み合わせを考えて作れます。

難しい動詞を覚える前にこの句動詞を活用することを覚えましょう。

 

• came about                           起こる
• turn down                             (音量等を)下げる
• speak up                                大きな声で話す
• come after                             つけまわす
• bring up                                 持ち出す
• pass away                               死ぬ
• come at                                  襲う
• mess around                         遊ぶ、騒ぐ
• bring forth                             持ち出す、提出する
• keep away from                    避ける
• turn down                              拒否する
• go off                                        去る
• go on                                        進める
• hold up                                    待つ
• look around                            探す
• bring about                            もたらす
• pass over                                 除外する、通り過ぎる
• come along                             一緒に来る
• ask for                                      要請する
• break up                                  別れる
• get back                                   戻る
• come across                            バッタリ出会う
• fill up                                         満杯にする
• fill out                                      (フォームに)記入する

 

句動詞はこの他にもいろいろあります。

ほとんどが中学で習う英語の基礎動詞と前置詞の組合せです。

前置詞が変わるだけでいろいろ意味が変化するので面白いでしょう。

難しい英単語の動詞を覚えるよりも自然に口に出てくるような

シンプルな句動詞を覚えてスムーズな英会話ができるようにしましょう。

海外旅行に行って体調を壊したことはないですか？

水が合わないとどうしてもお腹を壊したり具合が悪くなるものです。

気温の差で頭痛とか風邪の症状を経験することもあります。

エアコンがきついとうっかりすると風邪をひきます。

体調不良は予想外のことですが、そのための保険の準備は必須ですね。

さて、あまり望ましいことではないですが、

旅行先で運悪く体調を崩した時に英語で症状を言えるでしょうか？

備えあれば患いなしです。万一のために準備だけしておきましょう。

• I have a headache. What is wrong with me. 頭痛がします、何でしょう
• I have a cold for one week. ここ一週間風邪気味で
• I have got a lump. はれがあります
• I think I’ve pulled a muscle in my leg. 足がつって
• I am asthmatic. 私、喘息で
• My joints are aching. 関節が痛いです
• I have a sore throat. 喉が痛いです
• I’ve got a sprained ankle. 捻挫しました
• I am diabetic. 私は糖尿病です
• My skin is itchy. 皮膚がかゆくて
• I feel sick and painful. 気分が悪くて痛いです
• I cut my finger. 指を切りました
• I have a diarrhea. 下痢で
• I have a pain here. ここが痛いです
• I am suffering from hypertension. 高血圧で

旅行先で体調を崩すと不安になります。

まして病院で症状を的確に英語で言えないもどかしさもあります。

万一に備えて簡単な症状の説明が英語でできるように

いくつかパターンを覚えて旅行に出発したいものですね。
