英語の諺を勉強することは英語の勉強になり文化の勉強にもなります。

諺と共に名言や格言からも学ぶことが多いでしょう。

英語の格言で元気の出るものをチェックします。

 

Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow.

顔はいつも太陽に向けて、影なんて見ていることはない。

God doesn’t require us to succeed.  He only requires that you try.

神は成功しろとは言ってない。ただ挑戦して欲しいだけだ。

英語の名言や格言を時々読んで元気を貰いましょう。

日本では講演会で演者が自分の浅学非才を

まず陳謝することから始まるのか常です。

一方海外ではジョークのひとつで始まります。

これも言語の裏にある文化の違いと言えるでしょう。

英語の学習で英語のジョークを材料にするのも効果的です。

ジョークを理解できない場合もあるかも知れません。

シンプルだけどジョークは結構難しいものです。

理解できるか、笑えるかどうか見てみましょう。

 

• If you are hotter than me, then that means I am cooler than you.
• I don’t need a hair stylist, my pillow gives me a new hairstyle every morning.
• When I was in high school, I had two favorite subjects, lunch and recess.
• Lazy is such an ugly word. I prefer to call if selective participation.

• The great pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do.
• Santa saw your Facebook posts.  This year you’re getting a dictionary.

ジョークの中には貴重な人生訓も織り込まれています。

ただ笑うだけのものから自らに置き換えて考えるこもあります。

単なる英語の学習だけでなく何か生きる上での知恵も探してみましょう。

英会話では自分の身近で体験するであろう場面を想定するのが大事です。

自分が体験する場面でどのような会話をするのか想定して

そのシナリオを練習すればスムーズな会話もできるようになります。

日常会話で一番体験することは食事の場面かも知れません。

食事の場面では味の表現が大事です。味覚の表現を確認しましょう。

食事の時には味覚(taste)の話題が出てきそうですね。

savor（風味）とかflavor（香りを伴った味覚）についてうまく言えますか？

ただおいしい、deliciousだけでは単調です。

うまく味の表現ができるように日頃から訓練しましょう。

英語の諺を学習することは英語の勉強ばかりでなく

英語の裏にある文化を学習することにもなります。

日本の文化とは違った考え方やモノの味方があって

日本と英語文化との違いや類似点に気がつくでしょう。

英語の諺で英語の勉強もできますが、並行して異文化の勉強にもなります。

言語の裏にある文化を意識することは海外へ出かけたときに

実体験として接する外国の文化に慣れる意味もあります。

言語の学習とともに文化に慣れる意識も持って英語の諺を学びましょう。
