前置詞

英会話の上達のために語彙数を増やすことは必要です

しかし、徒に難しい英単語を覚えることもありません。

基礎動詞と前置詞のいろいろの組合せで表現力を強化することができるからです。

英語の句動詞はとても便利で効率的に活用できます。

英会話上達にこの句動詞をもっと活用することを考えましょう。

いくつか句動詞の例を見て行きましょう。

1. ask somebody out      デートに誘う

　I asked her out to dinner and a movie.

2. add up to     合計では

　Your purchases add up to $350.00.

3. back somebody up           支援する

　 He backed me up to complete the job.

4. call somebody back     折り返し電話する

　I called her back but she was out of the office.

5.  cheer up        元気づける

　 We all cheered up her to pass the exam.

6.  fall apart             バラバラになる

　 The machine fell apart due to an accident.

7. get over      回復すｒ

    I just get over the flue and I am OK now.

8. go after             追い求める

    He went after his dream for a long time.

9. put off              延期する

    We have to put off the event because of the budget.

10. turn up            出現する

　  He turned up without any notice at the meeting.

 

動詞と前置詞の組合せは沢山あって英会話に活用すると便利です。

難しい英単語を覚える前に基本的な動詞と前置詞の組合せで

いろいろな表現の幅を広げて行くことが可能です。

英語の前置詞はシンプルですがとても重要です。

英単語は数万語以上あるでしょうが、

日頃良く使う英語の前置詞は、数十個です。

数も限られているので使い方を覚えるのも直ぐできます。

重要な前置詞の意味や使い方をしっかり理解しましょう。

今回は英語の前置詞byの基本的な使い方を確認します。

 

１．by + 場所

意味は、そばに、隣にあるいは近くに。

The building is by a river.              川のそばに

I live by a train station.                   駅の近くに

２．by + 交通機関

どの乗り物を交通機関として使うか

by+train, car, taxi, bus, plane etc.

I go to my office by car.

She always go back to her home town by bus.

３．by + 通信手段

どのような通信手段を利用するか

by+telephone, email, post etc.

I spoke to him by telephone.    電話で

He sent me a draft by email.    emailで

４．by+支払手段

どのような手段で支払うか

by+credit card, cheque

Can I pay by credit card?   カードで払えますか？

５．by 受け身の文章では誰が行動をするかを表す

The report was compiled by him.

The book was written by him.

６．by+再帰代名詞

by+myself, yourself, himself, ourselves, themselves etc.

I made this box by myself.

Let’s finish this work by ourselves.

７．by+ 動詞ing

行動や手段を表す時に

You can call me by pressing that button.

８．by+時間

時間を伝える時に〜までにと言う意味で

We had to wait at the reception by 1 p.m.

He said he would submit the report by tomorrow.

良く知っている使い方ばかりですが、

時々意味と使い方を確認することは

自分の知識の確認にもなるので大事です。

句動詞は基本的な動詞＋前置詞の組合せで日常会話でも

いろいろな表現を簡潔に伝えることができて便利です。
