パターン

日本語は尊敬語、謙譲語、丁寧語と言った表現があって難しいです。

特に外国人が日本語を学ぶ際に一番迷うのが尊敬語等々です。

その点英語には日本語のような尊敬語とかないので

余り悩むことはないでしょうが、言葉ですから丁寧表現はあります。

英会話の中で失礼な言い方でなく丁寧に言うことは大事です。

乱暴な言い方、失礼な言い方でなく丁寧に言う表現方法を確認しましょう。

 

           丁寧でない言い方　　　➡　　丁寧な言い方

• I want another coke.      ➡　　I would like another coke.
• What?                                 ➡       Could you please repeat that?
• You are wrong.                ➡　　I think you might be mistaken.
• Where is the bathroom?   ➡　Could you tell me where the bathroom is?
• Do this now.          ➡　It would be great if you could do this now.
• Who are you?  ➡　May I have your name?
• Can I borrow your pen? ➡　Could I borrow your pen?
• Can I smoke here? ➡　Would you mind if I smoke here?
• Can I try this on?  ➡　Would it be alright if I tried this on?
• Can I use your phone?  ➡　I wonder if I might use your phone.
• Can you help me?  ➡　I was wondering if you could help me.
• Can you open the window? ➡ Would you mind opening the door?
• Come here.  ➡　Could you come here?
• Eat some of this food. ➡　How about trying some of this food?
• His speech was terrible. ➡　His speech was not very good.
• I don’t like it.  ➡  I don’t really like it, I’m afraid.

特段神経質になる必要はありませんが、

時と場合、相手によっては丁寧な表現が求められます。

乱暴な言い方は人間性を疑われることにもなります。

英会話力がある程度上達したら

丁寧な英語を喋るように心掛けてみましょう。

英語には長い歴史があります。沢山の言語の影響を受けました。

ラテン語やギリシャ語は勿論、北欧語やアラビア語等々。

長い歴史の間に英単語もいろいろ影響を受けています。

ドイツ語やインドネシア語等は、書いてある通り読めばOKですが

英単語は、書いてある通り読んでも正しい発音にならないことも。

これが英語の学習に大きな障害になっています。

しかし歴史的結果だけにどうすることもできないのです。

スペルに書いてあるのに読まないで良いとは困ったものです。

会話をスムーズの繋げるためにいろいろ話題を準備しておきましょう。

何でもない質問から会話が繋がり、その人の人間性も見えてきます。

質問はシンプルにお話も簡潔でOKです。シンプル英文に徹することです。

説明はできるだけ短文で起承転結を明確に話しましょう。

前置詞のtoとforはとてもシンプルな単語ですが、

実際に使う時には何となく分かったような分からないような感じがします。

そのモヤモヤ感をこの際解消してみましょう。

問題を解消するためにやるべきことは、

単純にぱ「パターン化する」ことです。

実際の例を分類してみて整理することです。

「例文を分類して整理する」これでパターンを押さえましょう。

 

１．TOの使い方

 

①　目的地を表すパターン

　　- I am going to Shibuya.

        – She went to the hospital this morning.

        – He is going to school.

 

②　　時間を表すパターン

　　 –  It is five minutes to one o’clock.

         – It is quarter to five.

 

 ③　　距離を表すパターン

　　  – It is about five km from here to my house.

          – It is about ten minutes from here to the station.

 

 ④　　比較を表すパターン

　　  – I prefer boxing to baseball.

          – She prefers cooking to sports.

 

 ⑤　　与える対象のパターン

　　  –  I gave my book to my girl friend.

          –  She gave a cake to her child today.

 

 ⑥　　動機・理由を表すパターン

　　    – He came here to see me.

            – I must work to get more money.

            – We need to talk to our boss.

 

２．FORの使い方

 

　①　便益を表すパターン

　　　  – Milk is good for your health.

              – Vitamin C is good for your skin.

 

     ②　時間の幅を表すパターン

　　　   –  I have been living here for five years.

               –  He has been waiting for her for one hour.

 

       ③　予約、予定を表すパターン

　　　　  – He made an appointment for the next Monday.

 

        ④　賛成を表すパターン

　　　　 –  I am for your opinion.

 

          ⑤　誰かの為にを表すパターン

　　　　  –  Could you do this work for me?

 

            ⑥　動機・理由を表すパターン

　　　　    – Let’s go out for a drink.

                    – We must go there for a meeting.

 

toもforもシンプルな単語ですが、使い方には迷います。
