英語では会話や文章で短縮形を使います。

例えば、I am…をI’mと短縮します。

会話では普通に出てくる短縮形ですが、

ビジネス文書や正式な書類では

あまりこのような短縮形は使わない方がベター。

基本的にinformalだと言うことを

まず理解しておきましょう。

 

いくつか例を見てみましょう。

I haven’t seen her for a long time.

Who’s calling now?

We’re going to school soon.

What’s happening there?

I wanna buy that book.

He won’t come to the party today.

 

前述したようにこのような短縮形は

インフォーマルなので

口語では良く出てきますが

あまり文書で書くのは不適切です。

文書で書く時、特にビジネス文書等では

短縮しないでフルスペルで書きましょう。

 

代表的な短縮形には以下のようなモノがあります。

１．肯定形の短縮

　　I’m      you’re        he’s         it’s       we’d

２．否定形の短縮

　　aren’t       can’t          hasn’t         won’t

３．その他

　　here’s      what’s        who’d         that’ll

４．スラング短縮形

　　ain’t            gimme             gonna

       gotta            kinda               wanna

 

英語では知っていても使わに方が良い

そんな用法もあるので注意が必要です。

このような短縮形も口語では普通ですが

仕事やフォーマルな文書では

使わないようにしましょう。

試験で英作文が出た時にも

回答の中で短縮形を使うのは

不適切です。キチンとスペルアウトしてください。
