英会話で動詞は必ず必要ですが、同じように副詞も重要です。

副詞は基本的に動詞を修飾するものですが、

「どのように」と言う程度を表現してくれます。

動詞だけでは素っ気ないところに多少の色を付ける感じです。

いろいろある副詞を一度整理してパターンを理解しておきましょう。

 

１．時間の副詞

　　時間を表現する副詞には次の副詞があります。

　　already,   ago,     before,     yet,    never,   soon,  lately  etc.

•   I have already finished my work.
•   I met him before.
•   I went there three years ago.
•   I have seen it before.
•   I haven’t spoken to her yet.
•   She has never been to Kyoto.
•   He is coming here soon.
•   I haven’t been feeling so well lately.

２．頻度を表す副詞

　　頻度を表す副詞には次の副詞があります。

　　always,   usually,    normally,   often,   sometimes,  seldom,  rarely  etc.

• It is always hot here.
• I usually go to the shop on Sunday.
• I normally play in this park.
• We often go out for dinner.
• Sometimes they come and talk in this room.
• I seldom see the TV.
• I rarely do overtime.

３．場所の副詞　

　　場所の副詞としては以下の副詞があります。

　　here,  near,   down,   away,   backwards,  upwards etc.

• He came here two hours ago.
• She lives near here.
• We went down the street.
• He is away on holiday.
• He walked backwards towards the window.
• She moved her face upwards.

４．程度の副詞

　　程度の副詞としては以下の副詞があります。

　　almost,   fully,   rather,   quite,   too,   enough etc.

• He is almost 90 years old.
• We are all fully prepared for the festival.
• I am rather busy.
• They are quite different.
• I feel too hot here.
• We had enough to eat.

５．肯定・否定の副詞

　　肯定・否定の副詞としては以下の副詞があります。

　　certainly,  surely,   apparently, obviously,  undoubtedly  etc.

• I certainly accept his plan.
• He will surely do that job for me.
• Apparently it’s going to snow soon.
• He was obviously telling the truth.
• This one is undoubtedly the best product of this year.

 副詞にはそれぞれ働きがあります。その働きは上記のように分類できます。

副詞をただひとつひとつ覚えるよりも働きによって分類して

あるいはパターン化して覚えると効率的に覚えることができます。

動詞を使えば必ず必要なのが副詞です。副詞の働きを再確認しましょう。

 

英語の前置詞は良く使われるものでも20個程度です。

シンプルな前置詞ですがとてもパワフルです。

ひとつひとつの意味を良く理解して使うと

とても幅広い使い方ができるようになります。

動詞と組み合わせると句動詞として活用できます。

前置詞句と言う決まり文句は日常会話でも活用できます。

今回は英語の前置詞OUTを使った前置詞句用法の例です。

• It is quite out of fashion.      　流行遅れ
• His book is out of print.           絶版で
• He is always out of step.           いつも歩調を乱す
• She was out of breath.               息を切らして
• It was quoted out of context.   前後関係を無視して引用された
• The boy asked out of curiosity.  好奇心から、興味本位で
• She refused out of jealousy.       妬んで、嫉妬心から
• My passport is out of date.        期限切れで
• They played out of doors.          屋外で
• The issue got out of hand.        手に負えなくなって
• We are all out of ideas.               行き詰った、アイデアが尽きて
• It is out of the question.             論外だ
• This pen is out of stock.             品切れで
• Out of sight, out of mind.           去る者は日日に疎し
• He acted out of duty.                    義務感から
• That is out of my reach.              手が出せない
• I am not saying it out of spite.   意地悪で言っているのではない
• He is rather out of practice.     練習不足で、腕がなまって来て
• The elevator is now out of order.    故障中で
• The plate is out of place.     外れている

ちょっとした前置詞句を覚えておくと会話で活用できます。

前置詞は、いろいろありますが、それぞれ決まりきった用法があります。

そのようなパターンになったものをそのまま覚えて活用しましょう。

使い方に慣れてくると英語の上達も早くなってきます。

英単語のmakeは、中学校で習ったシンプルな基礎動詞です。

誰でも知っている英単語makeですが、

この基礎動詞を使った慣用句や句動詞は沢山あります。

難しい英単語を覚えるよりもこのような基礎動詞の慣用句や句動詞を

日常会話にスムーズに使えるようになると英語も上達します。

英会話は、シンプルに簡単な英語を使って会話力を伸ばすことです。

makeを使った慣用句や句動詞を確認してみましょう。

 

• make up       でっちあげる
• make up of    ～から成っている
• make up for   ～の埋め合わせをする
• make up one’s mind    決心する
• be made of           ～でできている（材料）
• be made from     ～からできている（原料）
• be made into      ～に加工される（製品）
• make for       ～の役に立つ
• make out       分かる
• make much of     ～を重視する
• make little of       ～を軽視する
• make nothing of   ～を無視する
• to make matters worse   さらに悪いことに
• make an effort        努力する
• make haste              急ぐ
• make room               場所を空ける
• make fortune           儲ける
• make a living            生計を立てる
• make use of               ～を利用する
• make fire                   火をおこす
• make sure                  確かめる
• make a difference    重要である、相違を生じる
• make a decision        決断する
• make a mistake         ミスをする
• make a noise              騒ぐ
• make a call                  電話をかける
• make friends               友達になる
• make an appointment    約束する
• make a reservation          予約する
• make an application for   ～を申し込む
• make fun of                       ～をからかう
• make a fool of                   ～をばかにする
• make a trip                        旅行する
• make ends meet               やりくりする

難しい英単語を使わなくてもmakeを使っていろいろな表現ができます。

このような基礎動詞を活用した慣用句や句動詞をまず覚えると

表現の幅が広がるとともに語彙数を増やすことも可能です。

makeの他にもputやtake等の基礎動詞と前置詞を組み合わせた句動詞や

いろいろな慣用句を覚えると英会話力を格段に伸ばすことができるでしょう。

難しい英単語はもっと上達してからでも間に合います。

まずは基礎動詞をいろいろな前置詞と組み合わせてみましょう。

 

英会話を身につける時には前置詞の知識が大事です。

英語の前置詞は、とてもシンプルですがパワーがあります。

時には前置詞一個で完全な会話にもなります。

沢山ある前置詞の中でも良く出てくるatについて確認します。

 

★前置詞atは、時や場所の前置詞で良く使われます。

　一番大事な点は、「ピンポイントで時間や場所を指定する」こと。

　時間であれば何時何分と特定のその時を

　場所であれば近辺ではなく、特定の一点の場所を示します。

• at noon                                 正午に
• at 3:00p.m.                           午後三時に
• at the last moment              いざとなれば
• at the beginning of             ～の最初に
• at a time                                一度に
• at hand                                  手元に
• at present                               現在は
• at the station                         駅に
• at a distance                          ある距離をおいて（場所）
• at the bottom of                    ～の一番下に（場所）
• at the foot of                          ～の麓に

atは、時と場所の前置詞として良く使われますが、

その外にも慣用句として沢山の表現があります。

• at random                                手あたり次第に
• at the mercy of                        ～のなすがままに
• at table                                      食事中で
• at work                                      仕事中で
• at any rate                                 いずれにせよ
• at any cost                                  是非とも
• at one’s own cost                      自分の責任で
• at stake                                       危険に晒されて
• at a loss                                       途方にくれて
• at first sight                               一目見て

 

良く使う前置詞の数は限られています。難しい英単語を覚えるよりも

ひとつひとつのシンプルな前置詞の使い方を覚えると

シンプルな英語で会話ができるようになります。

基本的な前置詞の意味を理解して動詞や形容詞と組み合わせると

驚くほどの表現方法が言えるようになり会話力がつきます。
