英語はフレーズで覚える

英会話ではこれは英語でどういうのか悩むことがあります。

自分で翻訳するように考えてしまいますが

すでにある決まりきった表現があれば

それをそのまま活用するのが近道です。

英単語をひとつひとつ覚えるよりも

フレーズや決まり文句のカタマリで

あるいはセンテンスにしてパターンを覚えましょう。

日常会話で話すセンテンスは、殆どの会話文は

パターン会話、フレーズ会話でカバーされているでしょう。

例えば前置詞を使ったフレーズでも

日常会話で使えるものが沢山あります。

それを機会があればそのまま使ってみましょう。

英単語を増やすよりもフレーズやひとこと会話を

沢山覚えて活用するのが英会話上達の近道です。

SO THATの使い方

英文でso thatと言うのは良く使われる便利な表現法です。

昔受験英語でも良く試験に出ていました。

中学高校の英語の授業で習ったので良く覚えていると思います。

so thatの使い方を整理してみましょう。

１．主にふたつのセンテンスを繋ぐときにso thatを繋ぎとして使います。

２．最初のセンテンスの後にその理由とか説明を加える時にso thatでつないで二つ目のセンテンスをもってきます。

３．最初のセンテンスでアクションを話し、その理由、目的を説明するのにso thatでつないで二つ目のセンテンスを述べます。

例文

センテンス１　➡　We went to the party.

センテンス２　➡　We celebrated her birthday.

このふたつのセンテンスをso thatでつなぎます。

We went to the party so that we celebrate her birthday.

アクション　　　　　＋　　　目的・理由

so thatの使用パターンを整理して覚えれば簡単です。

He studies hard so that he would pass the examination.
I got up early in the morning so that I could catch the first train.
Put the poster on the wall so that everybody can read it.
She played the piano so that we could dance to the music.
We must agree to the agreement so that we can sign it immediately.
He asked me to stay in my house so that he could save money for a hotel.

so thatの使い方を整理すると

ひとつめのセンテンスでアクションについて述べ＋so that+ その目的・理由・説明についてふたつ目のセンテンスを繋げます。

会話に慣れないと良くsoだけでふたつめのセンテンスを持ってくることが多いようですが、ふたつのセンテンスを考えてそれをso thatでつなぐとスムーズな会話になる筈です。

ある行動があって、その理由・目的・説明を付け加える場合にはこのso thatでふたつのセンテンスをつなげると言う技を覚えておきましょう。

病院で症状を英語で言えますか？

海外旅行に行ってもし体調を崩したら現地で病院へ行くでしょう。

さて病院で症状を医者にあるいは看護師に説明しなければいけません。

その時少しでも英語で自分の症状を説明できたら安心です。

何も難しいことはありません。ある程度決まり文句を覚えておきたいもの。

シンプルな短文で説明できるのでちょっと練習しておきましょう。

　My ears are sore. 耳がずきずき痛い。
　My head hurts. 頭が痛い。
　I have a cold for one week. ちょっと風邪気味で。
　I feel sick and painful. 具合が悪くて痛いです。
　I have been having difficulty sleeping. 眠れなくて。
　I think I’ve pulled a muscle in my leg. 足の筋肉がつって。
　I’m asthmatic. 喘息持ちで。
　My joints are aching. 節々が痛いのです。
　I can’t stop coughing. 咳が止まらなくて。
　I’m diabetic. 糖尿病です。
　I have a rash on my arm. It’s very itchy. 腕に発疹ができて痒い。
　My stomach hurts and I’ve lost my appetite.胃が痛くて食欲がない。
　My skin is itchy. 肌が痒くて。
　I can’t stop scratching. 掻きむしってます。
　I have been having headaches. 頭痛がします。

英語で病名等はちょっと難しいかも知れませんが、

自分の症状程度は簡単に説明できるように練習しましょう。

頑張ってを英語で言うと？

日本語で「頑張って！」と言うのは日常良く使います。

仕事で勉強で遊びでも運動でも普通に使うフレーズです。

「頑張って！」のひとことに

いろいろな意味も込められていますね。

英語でも同じように頑張ってと励ます時に

どのような言い方があるのでしょうか？

シンプルな頑張って！でも

その時その時の状況で

いろんな意味があるのではないでしょうか。

英語でいろいろな意味を込めた

頑張って！とか良くやった！とか励ますひとことについて見てみましょう。

Couldn’t have done it better myself. 良くやった、俺にはできない。
Good effort! 良く頑張った！
Good job! 良くやった！
Good work! 良くやった！
I knew you could do it. やると思ったよ。
I’m very proud of you. 大したものだ！
It looks like you’ve put a lot of work into this. 頑張ったね。

ひとつのシンプルなひとこともその状況や関係性で

いろいろな意味が込められて使われます。

あるひとことを英語で何と言うのか考える時に

言い方はいろいろあるのだと言うことを覚えておきましょう。

いろいろ覚えることで英語は上達し

会話力の幅が広がってきます。
